Getting a Student Visa to Study in Malaysia

Obtaining a student visa to study in Malaysia involves several steps , depending on the length and type of study programme you choose. Below is a short guide specifically designed for students from Uzbekistan:

1. Short-term English courses (less than 3 months)

For short-term courses such as intensive English language programmes of less than three months duration, students from Uzbekistan can enter Malaysia without a visa for up to 30 days.

Visa requirements: However, if the course lasts longer than the stated period, a student visa must be obtained.

2. Long-term programs (more than 3 months)

For longer programs , including advanced English language courses, undergraduate and graduate programs, the following steps must be completed:

  • Step 1: Admission to a Malaysian educational institution.
Obtain an official letter of acceptance from an educational institution recognized by the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia.
  • Step 2: Obtain a Visa Approval Letter (VAL).
The institution will apply for a VAL on your behalf through Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS). Processing usually takes about 14 days.
  • Step 3: Apply for Single Entry Visa .
Once you have received your VAL , apply for a Single Entry Visa at the nearest Malaysian Embassy or Consulate in Uzbekistan. This visa will allow you to enter the country to complete the Student Pass process.
  • Step 4: Arrive in Malaysia and undergo medical examination.
Upon arrival, you will need to undergo a medical examination at a hospital registered by EMGS or the university itself.
  • Step 5: Obtaining a Student Pass.
Submit your passport to the International Office of your institution to obtain a Student Pass from the Immigration Department of Malaysia. The Student Pass is usually valid for the entire duration of your studies.

Additional information:

  • Processing Time: The entire visa process from application to approval takes between two and six weeks.
  • Part-time work: International students are allowed to work part-time – up to 20 hours per week – during holidays or semester breaks lasting more than seven days.
  • Passport Validity: Please ensure that your passport is valid for at least 12 months beyond the intended end date of your stay in Malaysia.
