Language training
Students who cannot meet the entry requirements for admission to academic programs (Foundation, Bachelor’s, Master’s, Doctoral) have the opportunity to enroll in language courses at APU without taking a language exam (IELTS/TOEFL). Language training precedes academic studies and guarantees progression to the required course.
- Preparatory courses (Foundation);
Required for high school graduates with an 11-year education cycle. Students undergo a year of training in various areas and are virtually guaranteed admission to higher education programs .
Duration of study: 3 semesters (12 months)
Start of training: (July, September, November)
- Diploma programs;
Suitable for applicants who want to gain qualifications and start working as quickly as possible. The diploma programme is available to 11- or 12-year high school graduates.
Duration of study: 5-7 semesters (2 – 2.5 years)
Start of training: (July, September, November)
- Bachelor’s Degree;
Suitable for students who have completed 12 years of secondary education or students who have completed 11 years of secondary education and an additional year of study (first year of a Bachelor’s degree, Foundation or equivalent ). Graduates of the Bachelor’s degree programme gain a degree and qualifications needed for work or further education at postgraduate level.
Duration of study: 6-7 semesters (3 – 4 years)
Start of training: (September, November)
Double degree with the British university De Montfort University (DMU)
- Master’s Degree;
Suitable for university graduates with a bachelor’s degree who wish to gain in-depth knowledge in a field of interest.
Duration of study: 1 year (2 years for research programs)
Start of training: (August, December)
Double degree with the British university De Montfort University (DMU)
- Doctoral studies (PhD)
The PhD program is suitable for students who want to delve deeper into their area of interest and have the opportunity to teach in the future.
Duration of training: 3 – 5 years
Start of training: (August, December)
- Online learning (ODL – Open & Distance Learning).
Key academic areas:
– IT and computer science: cybersecurity, game development, artificial intelligence, etc.;
– Business and management: marketing, HR, international business;
– Finance and accounting: banking, finance, Islamic economics, actuarial sciences;
– Engineering: mechanical, electrical, electronic and mechatronic engineering;
– Multimedia and design: animation, visual effects, digital advertising;
– Social sciences and psychology.

Required documents for admission
International applicants must provide the following documents:
- Certified copies of academic documents: certificates, diplomas and transcripts with official translation into English, if applicable.
- English language proficiency certificate : IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, MUET results or passing the APU internal test.
- Copies of all passport pages, including blank pages. Passport must be valid for at least 24 months from the start date of studies.
- Four passport size photographs (35mm x 45mm) on a white background that meet EMGS requirements.
- Completed APU Application Form .
- Signed Health Declaration Form .
- Yellow fever vaccination certificate (only for citizens of some countries).
- No Objection Certificate (NOC) or Letter of Acceptance (LOE) – only for students from Oman, Sudan and Iran.
Additionally, for students transferring from other Malaysian institutions, the following is required:
- Letter of visa cancellation and release from previous educational institution.
- Certificates of education and attendance report (at least 80% attendance).
- Malaysia exit stamp (if the student has left the country).
- Original passport for obtaining a Special Pass if the student is in Malaysia.
Main expenses
Below are estimated costs for international students:
Registration and administrative fees
- Stage 1: Payment upon acceptance of offer of admission – RM 2,650 (approximately USD 620).
- Stage 2: Payment after student visa approval – RM 1,500 (approx. USD 350).
- Registration and administration fee for international students: RM 5,000 (approximately USD 1,165).
- Library deposit (refundable): RM 500 (approx. USD 120).
- Personal deposit (refundable): RM 1,000 (approx. USD 235).
Tuition fees:
– Bachelor’s degree (3 years): 20,000–30,000 MYR per year (approximately 4,200–6,300 USD);
– Master’s degree (1–1.5 years): 25,000–35,000 MYR for the entire course (approximately 5,200–7,300 USD);
Total living expenses:
– Housing: 800–1,500 MYR/month;
– Food and personal expenses: 700–1,200 MYR/month;
– Visa, insurance, registration: 2,000–2,500 MYR (one-time).
Admission requirements vary by level of education. Example: for a bachelor’s degree in computer science:
– STPM/ A-Level / UEC / Diploma / Foundation – a certain minimum score and core subjects;
English language:
– Preparatory level – IELTS 5.0 / TOEFL 500;
– Bachelor’s degree — IELTS 5.5 / TOEFL 513;
– Master’s degree — IELTS 6.0 / TOEFL 550.
Additionally:
– Motivation letter (400–600 words) – about the choice of program, goals, achievements;
– Portfolio (for creative specialties) – 5–15 works with descriptions;
– Interview – conducted if necessary.
